About Michael

Michael Shiner, Ed.D., MBA, teaches the psychology of decision making and leadership to Executive Masters Students at Brown. Before transitioning to academia and consulting, Michael was an entrepreneur and family-office investor. He has taught MBA students at MIT, and educators at Harvard. Michael served as an Assistant Professor of Leadership and Ethics at the U.S. Naval War College, working with Admirals and Senior Executive Staff. His current book project focuses on the role of leadership in moral injury -- a term coined by his co-author, Jonathan Shay, M.D., Ph.D., former psychiatrist to Vietnam Combat Veterans. 

Michael lives in Newton, MA, is a father of 4, loves coffee, wine, music, and cooking. Relevant to his work as a coach, he was a competitive swimmer (breaststroke) and is a conservatory-trained percussionist and jazz/rock drummer.
